Bakewell Privacy Policy
AG-GENTECH
Overview
Bakewell is a recipe card app with optional social features. Your recipes are stored locally on your device by default. Social features (publishing, friends, comments) are optional and require creating an account.
Data Stored on Your Device
The following is stored locally on your iPhone and never leaves your device unless you choose to publish:
- Recipes you create or generate
- Pantry inventory and shopping lists
- Recipe categories and preferences
- Theme setting (dark/light mode)
This data is stored in a local database on your device. You can delete all local data at any time by deleting the app.
Social Features & Account Data
Bakewell offers optional social features for sharing recipes with friends. When you use these features, the following data is stored on our server (powered by Supabase):
- User Account: An anonymous account is created automatically on first launch. You may optionally add an email and password to make your account persistent across devices.
- Profile Data: Your display name, bio, and a randomly generated Baker Code (used by friends to find you).
- Published Recipes: When you publish a recipe, its title, description, ingredients, steps, and any uploaded photos are stored on our server with your chosen visibility (public, friends-only, or private).
- Social Interactions: Hearts, comments, "I Made This" cook notes, recipe views, and bookmarks are stored on our server.
- Friend Relationships: Friend requests, accepted friendships, and user blocks are stored to enable social features.
- Notifications: Activity notifications (hearts, comments, friend requests) are stored on our server.
- Session Data: Login sessions are stored for up to 90 days to keep you signed in.
- Shared Grocery Lists: Items in shared lists are stored on our server so collaborators can see them.
Recipes you do not publish remain on your device only and are never uploaded.
AI Recipe Generation
Bakewell offers an optional AI recipe generation feature. When you use this feature:
- Your selected recipe preferences and ingredient names are sent to our server
- Our server forwards this to Anthropic's Claude AI to generate a recipe
- The generated recipe is returned to your device
- AI requests are processed and immediately discarded — no recipe generation data is stored on our server
- No personal information is included in AI requests
Camera and Photo Library
Bakewell may request access to your camera or photo library to:
- Attach photos to your recipes (stored locally unless published)
- Scan printed recipe cards using AI vision
- Scan pantry items for automatic identification
Photos attached to published recipes or cook notes may be uploaded to our server (Supabase Storage). Uploaded photos are limited to 2MB.
No Tracking or Advertising
- No analytics SDKs (no Firebase, no Google Analytics)
- No advertising or ad networks
- No cookies (server sessions use secure httpOnly session tokens)
- No email marketing or newsletters
- No selling or sharing of data with third parties
